PreSeason Update

By Stowe Youth Hockey 10/01/2019, 2:15pm EDT

Hi everyone - A few important updates for you. Please take a minute to read through this entire email. We very much appreciate it.

The 2019/20 season is set to start on Tuesday, October 15th for U6 through U14. Yes, two weeks from today!!! Please take a look at the website to see the practice times for your players. There is NO Wednesday skills practice during the first week.

  • We still have some Patriots and Giants football books left for this season. We are selling them at a discounted price of $20. Many of you had expressed interest in selling some, however did not participate. We would love to move some more of these books. If you could take a moment to stop into the rink to pick some up from Tony that would be fantastic. Ideally, each family sells a few books per player.

  • On the topic of volunteering and fundraising.....We are incredibly excited that the new season is upon us. The kids will soon be on the ice practicing with games beginning soon after. Stowe Youth Hockey relies on volunteers for all of our operations. Coaches are volunteers. Team Managers are volunteers. Schedulers are volunteers. The board are volunteers. Tournament workers are volunteers.

Without volunteers we would not be able to have a program here.

How can you volunteer for Stowe Youth Hockey?

You don't have to know anything about hockey to help your kids have a great hockey experience in a great hockey organization.

All parents are expected to assist as needed during team home games, tournaments, fundraisers, and other organization events. Please learn to run the time clock, work the penalty box, keep score, or have fun playing music at a game.....and most of all, please participate in fundraising efforts. Those are just a few of the ways you can help out. Ask questions and be open to trying something new. We NEED you!

Did you know that during the 2018/19 season we raised over $15,000 dollars with a few key fundraising events. The thing is...we'd raise even more if we had participation from our full membership.

Just last weekend we raised $3,400 from a golf tournament with the efforts of a few dedicated members of our organization. We are also going to end up with thousands of dollars from the football books....from the efforts of a small minority of the organization.

Without fundraising, the cost for your child to play hockey would be almost 50% higher than it is today! We have to pay for ice time, referees, insurance, and more.

The next time you see a flyer, or an email about fundraising or volunteering at games or tournaments, please consider helping out. There are so many ways to help. We promise that you don't have to be a great salesperson or hockey expert to help out. You might just have a little fun, meet some people, and show our kids how important it is to see us adults giving our time to a community organization, and working hard for something we believe in and value as important.

Thanks, in advance, for your help in making the 2019/20 season a successful one, and thanks for reading.

The SYH Board.
